INTERVIEW WITH LYNN HUANG: Born in 1978 just after the Chinese government began its one child per family campaign, Lynn overcame a difficult childhood and adolescence to become a confident, outspoken young woman. Her strong desire to help others has inspired her to become a doctor. Lynn maintains that only-child determination has been a significant factor in her success.

WHY ONE IS ENOUGH: Psychologist Nina Asher interviews colleagues and clients to learn what motivated their decision to have one child. Career demands, family history, financial restrictions, and relationships with siblings are all reasons couples give. And we are delighted to report that most of these families are contented with their choice.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE ~ HELP WITH ELDERCARE: Because adult only children sometimes have to handle the affairs of elderly parents on their own, we try to provide information, on an ongoing basis, about how to navigate the often rough waters of elder care. This month we explore assisted living, one of the popular living arrangements for older Americans. If your parents are still well enough to care for themselves but not strong enough to live on their own, assisted living may be the answer. Only Child begins to sort it out.
