Are You Guilty of. . .

I. OVERINDULGENCE

Do you often think that your child needs everything? Do you tend to overindulge your only child emotionally as well as materially?

2. OVERCOMPENSATION

Do you feel guilty for having one child? Do you overcompensate for that guilt? Are you convinced that you have done something terrible to your child by not providing a sibling?

3. TREATING YOUR CHILD LIKE AN ADULT

Do you make your child your confidant or bosom buddy? This is a particularly difficult sin for single parents to avoid. Do you make your child part of your marriage? Do you allow your child to make decisions that rightfully belong to grown ups?
4. OVERPRAISING
Do you praise your child for everything, whether it’s well done or not? That’s the quickest way to make sure that your only child is entitled.
5. OVERPROTECTION
Do you strive to keep your child from failure and the everyday pains of growing up. Does your child think that failure and rejection are the end of life rather than a part of it?
6. EXPECTING PERFECTION
Do you try to live through your only child? Are you always looking through your microscope for flaws?
7. FAILING TO MAKE RULES AND IMPLEMENT THEM
Do you find it difficult to make rules and/or implement them? Do you allow the rules you make to be bent and even broken? Who is in control, you or your child? Your child is cute. Your child is strong and cunning. Your child knows just how to get to you. On a good day you are stronger and can resist your adorable kid’s strategies, on a bad day you crumble.
